A little bit scary, but so much fun

Well, Halloween has come and gone, but I’m having trouble with myself still walking around like a zombie. This has happened before and I may have to go to the emergency room if this urge doesn’t stop soon. Some of our neighbors have already voiced their concern to Vicky about me walking down the middle of the road with outstretched arms and a blank look on my face. I’ve almost been run over twice since Halloween two nights ago. I have to fix this before I get hurt, and fortunately, here in Canada, most hospitals have a Zombie Rehab Center. I may have to check myself in if this is still happening tomorrow. Other than the zombie hangover, Halloween in our neighborhood was a ton of fun.

We get a lot of trick-or-treaters, and the fireworks on our road were spectacular. While Ty and Brittany take the two boys out, Vicky, dressed as a witch, a good witch, sits in the front yard around the fire pit and hands out candy. Luca, two, was a fireman this year, and Oliver, four, was Spider-Man. Too cute, those two grandsons of ours.

When it’s my turn to hand out the candy, I always do a magic trick I learned a couple of years ago and evolved out of necessity due to my addiction to chocolate. It’s a sleight-of-hand trick where it looks like I’m putting candy in the kids’ bags, when I’m actually taking candy out and filling my pockets. No trick-or-treaters have picked up on it yet, and they don’t seen to know any better as they wander off to the next house. I got quite a chocolate stash this Halloween that should last a while.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It ranks right up there along with April Fools Day. Every Halloween we have incredible fireworks on the road that runs along our house. There are only four houses on that road and it dead ends at the Galloping Goose Trail, so it’s a safe place to set off fireworks. It seems to get more popular every passing year. There were probably a hundred plus people here of all ages enjoying the show. Next year I’m thinking bleachers. live music, and a couple of food trucks. Why not? Also this Halloween, the weather was unbelievably cooperative. It was a clear night, and no wind. A perfect evening for trick-or-treaters, and some of the costumes, oh my goodness, were amazing. You could tell a lot of work and imagination went into some of them. It’s neat to live in a neighborhood where we get so many kids out and everyone having a great time.

I hope your Halloween was as much fun and spooky as ours, and that it brought you many smiles. Oh-no, here it comes again, that urge to walk around like a zombie. What the heck is going on?

 A great read…..
I have to go hug my dog now.

Anyone from the “Vietnam era” will identify with both the positive and negative effects of that lost war and its victims…troubled, they returned to an unappreciative country, trying to forget what they had witnessed or done. Sometimes, only the unconditional love of an animal can move them through their terrors.

Enjoyed it like a good movie,
didn’t want it to end.
