Yesterday, February 28th, the United States and Israel attacked Iran to start another war in the Middle East. Has the world gone mad? Seems like it. War and killing each other seem to be human nature. I write in my books about war, and its effect on everyone of all ages. Russia and Ukraine are still at war after four years. Pakistan and Afghanistan are fighting each other. I’ve said before that I will remain the eternal optimist for as long as I live, but my goodness, what about the future and the world our children and grandchildren will be growing up in? We certainly as a race of people can’t be proud of the way we behave. We need leaders who can lead with kindness and compassion. I said that when I introduced myself on my website. This can’t go on, this madness. It simply can’t. This is not who we are. Why do evil-thinking people have to rule the world? Who are they? Con men who have no heart, no compassion, and don’t understand the value of life. Is it all done in the name of religion? The desire for power? What? My days on this planet are numbered because of my age, but I still hope in my lifetime we can see some light, a very bright light, at the end of the tunnel, which will signal that love and kindness have won out.
So, I took my oldest grandson, Oliver (Luca was having a nap), and I took him to the beach and told him to run along the shore, and I would chase him. Not easy for a seventy-seven year old to keep up with a four-year-old, let me tell you, but I needed an escape after hearing the awful news about war in the Middle East and wanted to live in his world for a little while as we played on the beach: his innocent and carefree world. As I sat on the sand and watched Oliver play at the shoreline, I tried to block out thoughts of children living in war zones and what their world was like. It was difficult, if not impossible. Shouldn’t all children living in the world be running on some beach, playing and laughing in a peaceful world? Is this how we treat our children? I am reminded of lyrics from a Todd Rundgren song from the 1970’s titled, ‘Love is the Answer’. “Light of the world – Shine on me – Love is the answer – Shine on us all – Set us free – Love is the answer.” It’s a beautiful piece of work and one I can listen to over and over because the messaging in the song is so pertinent to the events going on in today’s world. It’s true, love is the answer. Believe it and feel it next time you look into the eyes of an innocent child.
