Bears and autumn leaves

We live in a residential area, within striking distance of the rural and farming areas that surround us. Our neighbourhood is well established and the homes around here were built in the 1970’s. Everyone seems to take pride in their homes and yards, and there are lots of young families, playgrounds, parks, and schools within walking distance, plus woods and mountains. So, it shouldn’t have surprised anyone when a bear appeared last week one block over and hung around for three days. At one point it was on the trail right behind our house. A little too close, if you ask me. My daughter, Brittany, got a picture of it as it climbed a tree. Our four-year-old grandson, Ollie, was with her and got to see it as well. It was pretty exciting stuff for a little kid. They were in Brittany’s car, in case any of you were wondering. They had just left home to run errands and just turned the corner when they noticed people standing and pointing up at a tree. Brittany figured it had to be either a bear or a cougar, and it turned out to be the former. At any rate, as I said, he hung around for three days and was spotted numerous times at locations right near our house. Everyone remained on alert while the bear was in the area, but it appears he has moved on. Since that incident, there have been a number of bear sightings in other residential areas. Apparently, they are raiding any apple trees they can find and gorging themselves before winter sets in. Our next door neighbour had a bear up his apple tree a couple of years ago. So, they’re around (the bears are) and so far there haven’t been any reports of aggressive behaviour. That’s welcoming news.

Now, it’s early October, and the fall colours are nearing their peak in our area. Maybe another week and the beauty of autumn will be in full swing. We’ve had some beautiful fall weather with lots of sun and temperatures above normal. It is such a beautiful time of year. Everywhere you look, the leaves have turned and are putting on quite a show. For those of you who live in an area where you can experience the fall colours, you know what I’m talking about. It’s a most wonderful time of year, and it’ll be spring before you know it…..right?

 A great read.....
I have to go hug my dog now.

Anyone from the “Vietnam era” will identify with both the positive and negative effects of that lost war and its victims…troubled, they returned to an unappreciative country, trying to forget what they had witnessed or done. Sometimes, only the unconditional love of an animal can move them through their terrors.

Enjoyed it like a good movie,
didn't want it to end.

What an incredible book that had so many amazing messages and had me experience so many different emotions. I would strongly recommend this book to absolutely anyone. I can say with certainty that it is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I can’t wait to read his next book!!!
