A LOST POEM FOUND

I hope this confession doesn’t reflect how, at times, I can be so disorganized. But, it’s true, I’m not always the most organized person. The other day at my desk, I decided to have a gander at a pile of papers that had been laying next to my laptop for ages. What could be in amongst all these papers? Oh, some financial statements, some notes about nothing in particular, instructions on how to vote by mail-in ballot, an 8×10 photograph of Vicky and me,  instructions on how to assemble some shelves, and… a poem I had written a few years back. What the heck! How did that get in amongst all these papers? And, I had totally forgotten about it. I hadn’t read it in years and found it very refreshing after all this time. These days, we need reading material that uplifts us.

After watching the news on TV last night, that feels more true than ever. There was a story about how AI could  destroy all of humanity within the next ten years. Huh? Gosh, the news is so depressing, so negative so…..weird. Anyway, I’m getting off track as I would like to share this lost poem of mine I found and hopefully it might enlighten your day.

It’s entitled: Sunshine and Blue Sky.

Before I open my eyes, I can sense the warmth, then I begin to feel it.                                                                                            What a beautiful day it’s going to be.                                                                                                                                                        The anticipation is exhilarating and moves me.                                                                                                                                     I lie still and enjoy the moment.                                                                                                                                                              I am reminded of a promise that has been kept.                                                                                                                              There are a multitude of sounds that only this time of day can bring.                                                                                            A waiting soul knows peace is at hand.                                                                                                                                                  Eyes still closed, smiling, I know it is here without seeing it.                                                                                                            Joy of the heart.                                                                                                                                                                                            Ready now, I look around.                                                                                                                                                                        A silent yawn, a big stretch, I reach for a morning moon garnished by a melting rainbow.                                                        A new dawn tells me every day is a gift, every child is precious.                                                                                                        Every breath is in time with all of life that begins to stir as it welcomes new light.                                                                      Sunshine and blue sky surround me.                                                                                                                                                      A message is received at just the right time.

I look back from where I came; out of the woods and into the clear.                                                                                                Always so near, this Sunshine and Blue Sky.                                                                                                                                        A trickle of water flows out from the last patch of snow.                                                                                                                    Colors begin to change and flow as a morning hue moves across nature’s stage against a backdrop of white mountain peaks and sprints toward eternity.                                                                                                                                                            Sunshine and Blue Sky stay with me.                                                                                                                                                      I feel free and have nothing to do.

Yesterday I couldn’t see you when I was deep in the forest, but I knew you were there.                                                               I couldn’t see you in a star-filled night, but I knew you were there.                                                                                                   I did, however, see our reflection in a mountain creek when I knelt down to have a drink.                                                         You were there, always there.                                                                                                                                                                     In the sound of a waterfall, in the whisper of a soft breeze, in the snapping of a dry twig, in the echo of a canyon wall,     you were always there.

Always doing what you do best; giving warmth to everyone you meet.                                                                                            Showing friends how to smile and laugh together.                                                                                                                              Making strangers feel like they are no longer strangers.                                                                                                                      It is the gift you have to give, and this is how we all should live.                                                                                                      You’ve helped so many to spread their wings and fly.                                                                                                                          Shine on, light up the Earth, a new day has begun.                                                                                                                              Onward. Upward. Forward.                                                                                                                                                                      Surround me like you’ve done so many times in the past, Sunshine and Blue Sky.                                                                      We can go now if you will show me the way.                                                                                                                                          Let’s you and I together, get on with this glorious day.

 A great read.....
I have to go hug my dog now.

Anyone from the “Vietnam era” will identify with both the positive and negative effects of that lost war and its victims…troubled, they returned to an unappreciative country, trying to forget what they had witnessed or done. Sometimes, only the unconditional love of an animal can move them through their terrors.

Enjoyed it like a good movie,
didn't want it to end.

What an incredible book that had so many amazing messages and had me experience so many different emotions. I would strongly recommend this book to absolutely anyone. I can say with certainty that it is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I can’t wait to read his next book!!!
